JB cops seize smuggled smokes, booze worth over RM180,000


JOHOR BARU: Police confiscated cigarettes and alcoholic beverages worth more than RM180,000 during a raid in Taman Cendana, Pasir Gudang.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the raid was conducted by a team from the Region Two Marine Police based in Pengerang at 9.30pm on Monday (Jan 13).

“The operation uncovered a stash of contraband cigarettes and alcoholic beverages of various brands.

"It resulted in the seizure of 15 boxes of cigarettes and 18 boxes of alcoholic beverages,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 14).

The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing uncustomed and prohibited goods.

ACP Sohaimi added that they are actively tracking down those believed to be responsible.

“Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Seri Alam District Police Hotline at 07-3864222.

“We will continue to combat smuggling activities and warn those involved to cease such operations, which cause significant losses to the country,” he said.
