Roadblocks, extra screenings to be conducted ahead of solidarity rally, say Putrajaya cops


PUTRAJAYA: Action will be taken against those attending Monday's planned solidarity rally at the Palace of Justice, say police.

"The public is not allowed to attend the rally tomorrow in Putrajaya as it did not obtain permission from the premises owner as stipulated in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. The police will take strict action on anyone who attends as it goes against the laws at hand," Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Aidi Sham Mohamed said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 5).

He added that roadblocks and additional screenings will be conducted.

A solidarity gathering had been planned on Monday to coincide with the Court of Appeal’s hearing related to an alleged royal addendum order that will apparently allow former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the rest of his prison term under house arrest.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said in a separate statement that his men would be deployed at key locations around Putrajaya, including entrances, to ensure smooth traffic on Monday.

"Traffic officers will be deployed at certain locations to carry out monitoring and enforcement.

"In addition, additional officers from my depart have also been sent to provide assistance in Putrajaya," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said that the assignment of the officers involved would begin at midnight before the rally.

"The assignment will also be assisted by tow trucks from the Putrajaya Corporation for actions involving vehicles that are blocking traffic.

"Diversions and road closures will be made if it is deemed necessary to do so," he said.
