UMMC to increase consultancy, admission, service charges citing rising costs

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) is increasing its consultation, admission and service charges, which were last revised in 2019.

Citing rising costs of medical supplies and equipment, the medical centre also announced that the new charges had come into effect on Jan 1.

"The price of consultations has increased from RM5 to RM15 for general clinic and RM30 to RM80 for special consultations, RM15 to RM50 for follow-ups with specialists and ward admission from RM120 to RM300 (single adult room)," said UMMC in a statement on Friday (Jan 3).

"The charges are based on an activity-based costing method which factors in all expenses, an approach which ensures a comprehensive calculation of the services provided to patients," it said.

UMMC said it was responsible for generating its own income although government assistance remains its main source of funding and the revision was to ensure sustainability and not for profit maximisation.

The new rates for other services include RM270 for paediatric ward admission, RM500 (emergency ward admission for adults), RM650 (emergency ward admission for children) and RM700 for delivery room admission.

"The new advance charges for paediatric and ophthalmology services are now RM1,500 and RM2,500 for surgical and orthopaedic services for locals, while advance payments for critical wards is RM5,000," it added.
