Muslims must reject religious polemics, urges Na'im

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has urged Malaysian Muslims to remain vigilant against attempts by certain parties to create religious polemics for their own interests.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) expressed regret over the actions of some political leaders who, he said, deliberately politicise the concept and approach of Madani, which forms the foundation of the nation’s governance today.

"Labelling the Madani approach as 'Madani Jahiliah' or similar terms is highly excessive and disappointing," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 1).

According to Na’im, the Madani concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a noble initiative aimed at restoring the dignity of the nation.

"The Madani concept has been widely accepted by Islamic scholars as being rooted in the Quran and Sunnah.

"It also emphasises a holistic and comprehensive approach to national development, encompassing both spiritual and physical aspects," he added.

In welcoming the new year of 2025, Mohd Na’im called on all parties to strengthen unity and work together to build the nation for the benefit of the people.
