Fahmi Reza released on police bail, returns to KL


KOTA KINABALU: Fahmi Reza has been released on police bail after being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 on Tuesday (Dec 31).

The 47-year-old graphic designer and activist has reportedly returned to Kuala Lumpur.

Penampang district police chief Supt Sammy Newton confirmed the release when contacted by the media on Wednesday (Jan 1).

“Fahmi was released at 5.30pm on Tuesday and has since returned to Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

Fahmi was detained on Monday at the Penampang district police headquarters after voluntarily presenting himself to provide a statement regarding his work related to Tun Musa Aman's appointment as the 11th Yang di-Pertua Negeri for Sabah.

The action followed over 30 police reports lodged, including complaints about a caricature poster allegedly insulting Musa.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or services.
