Lorry driver sought after accident kills motorist in Johor

KULAI: A 30-year-old man was killed in an accident involving a motorcycle and a lorry on the Linkedua Highway, here.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at 4.30pm on Friday (Dec 27), near KM29.3, heading towards the Senai Utara Toll.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident involved a motorcycle ridden by a 30-year-old man.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have swerved to avoid an unidentified lorry travelling in the right lane.

“This manoeuvre caused the rider to lose control and crash into the metal road divider on the right side of the highway,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 28).

ACP Tan added that the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Following the incident, the lorry driver fled the scene and is currently being sought by police to assist in the investigation.

“The victim's body has been sent to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital in Kulai for a post-mortem examination,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are urging anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department at the Kulai District Police Headquarters.
