Highway users exempt from tolls for Christmas (Poll Inside)


KUALA LUMPUR: Highway users will be exempt from tolls on highways nationwide on 23 and 24 December in conjunction with Christmas celebrations.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 21) that the free toll will apply only to Class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) for Christmas this year (2024).

"The cost will be borne by the Federal Government, amounting to RM38mil. This toll exemption is expected to provide an opportunity for all Malaysians to enjoy the celebrations, especially those of the Christian faith," he said.

Nanta said that the exemption would be from 12.01am on Monday (December 23) to 11.59pm on Tuesday (December 24).

"The toll exemption applies at all toll plazas except those at the country's borders, namely the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) toll plaza and the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza in Johor. We hope that all private vehicle road users take advantage of the toll exemption and plan their trips in advance to avoid traffic congestion," he added.

Highway users are also advised to focus on safety by observing speed limits, signage, and regulations while on the road.
