INDIAN entrepreneurs have received RM204.5mil in loans from Tekun Nasional since 2019, Makkal Osai reported.

The agency has helped 9,412 Indian entrepreneurs under the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme, Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan said.

Tekun Nasional, which functions under the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Ministry, is a loan scheme for small-scale entrepreneurs to expand their businesses. About 20% or 1,877 of the recipients had difficulties paying the loans back on time and Tekun Nasional is working with the Credit Counselling and Debt Management (AKPK) to give them financial guidance, he said.

Ramanan, who is Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister, said participants of the loan scheme who pay their monthly instalments on time for six months will be considered for further assistance.

The agency wants to help ensure the entrepreneurs are able to make their venture a success, he added.
