UM says sexual harassment allegations by student towards lecturer being investigated


PETALING JAYA: The case of sexual harassment allegations involving a Universiti Malaya (UM) professor against his student is being investigated by the authorities, says the university.

At the same time, UM said it will continue to monitor the developments in the case and will provide full cooperation to the relevant parties to ensure the issue is addressed appropriately.

“UM confirms that it has received a report on the case raised by the UM Feminism Club which was also reported by several local media agencies.

“UM is currently unable to comment further as the matter has been referred to the relevant authorities for investigation,” it said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 18).

Previously, it was reported that UM Feminism Club, in a statement, had alleged that a professor had sexually harassed his students by sending inappropriate pictures of himself.

The statement added that while reports had been lodged against the lecturer, no action was taken.
