KUALA LUMPUR: Small medium businesses in the consumer products industry have the opportunity to connect with overseas business with the latest trade expo, Malaysia Consumer Expo (MYCE) 2024.
The consumer-focused international trade expo aims to foster international trade partnerships, spotlight Halal innovation, and provide a global stage for SMEs to thrive.
The exhibition features over 150 exhibitors from Malaysia and abroad.
There are products and services from seven sectors: fast-moving consumer goods, sports equipment, home design, vending machines, beauty products, pet supplies, and electronics and home appliances.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, officiated the opening ceremony of the expo with a ribbon-cutting ceremony here on Tuesday (Dec 17).
The main organiser, the Malaysia Guangdong Import & Export Chamber of Commerce (MGIECC) president Kim Tan Kian Wee said that the theme of the year's expo was “Muslim culture goods and products.”
“This event is not only a testament to Malaysia’s economic and cultural vibrancy but also serves as a bridge for international trade and cultural exchange.
“This expo highlights the potential of the Halal economy while fostering deeper cultural and economic integration through business matching, cultural displays, and product launches,” he said during his welcoming speech.
He also expressed gratitude towards Ali for his presence.
During the ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was also signed between Matrade and Dunia Melayu Dunia Islam Biro Economic (DMDI) witnessed by Ali.
The signing between the parties was to enhance global trade promotion by facilitating trade missions, sharing export-related information, and fostering business relationships between DMDI’s 23 affiliated countries.
The expo is free for the public to visit from now till 19 Dec and is held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec), Kuala Lumpur.
It is also supported by the National Consumer Action Council (Majlis Tindakan Pengguna Negara, MTPN) as the main host and collaborates with the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Importers & Exporters (Malaysia Service Centre) to deliver a platform for consumer and trade innovation.
One of the expo’s highlights is the one-on-one business matching sessions, designed to connect local SMEs with global partners, enabling them to expand their market reach and explore new business opportunities.
This initiative underscores MYCE’s commitment to supporting SME development and fostering international collaborations.
