DID issues flood warning for 15 villages near Sungai Kusial, Tanah Merah


KOTA BARU: The Irrigation and Drainage Department has issued a flood warning for residents in 15 villages located within 5km of Sungai Kusial in Tanah Merah, advising them to remain vigilant for potential flooding from Wednesday (Dec 18) to Thursday.

The warning follows a level one (yellow) continuous rain alert issued by the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Saturday.

According to the department, the affected villages include Kampung Padang Kijang, Kampung Bendang Nyior, Bandar Tanah Merah, Kampung Cekok Ipoh, Kampung Belimbing, Kampung Panjang, and Kampung Kerilla.

Also at risk are Taman Kiara, Kampung Padang Kijang, Kampung Alor Pasir, Kampung Kelewek, Kampung Terasil, Kampung Kulim, Kampung Jerangau, and Kampung Chekok Ipoh.

The department further warned that flooding may occur earlier or later than anticipated.

The alert has been issued to allow residents, particularly those in flood-prone areas, to take necessary precautions and heed authorities' instructions. - Bernama
