Malaysia on right path to economic growth, says Wong

KUALA LUMPUR: Stable governance and clear directions of the unity government have led Malaysia on the right path to economic growth, says Wong Kah Woh.

The Deputy Education Minister, who attended the 105th anniversary of The Federation of Malaysia Chinese Commerce Association (Femacca) here last night, told the audience that the country saw an economic growth of between 4.2% and 5.9% in the first nine months of this year.

He said the Madani Economy framework, launched in mid-2023, to boost the nation’s economy has started to bear fruit.

“In the first nine months of this year, Malaysia’s approved investments have hit RM254.7bil, a 10.7% increase compared to the same period of 2023.

“(The year) 2024 has come to its last month, and this is also the 25th month of the formation of the Madani government, which has created a stable governance and set a clear direction for the country. Malaysia is on the right path,” he said.

Wong, who represented Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming at the event, also witnessed the inauguration ceremony of the federation’s new committee led by its president Datuk Lum Kim Soong.

Femacca was set up in 1919 with the initial mission to protect the rights and interests of the Chinese community and their businesses in Malaya, as well as establish schools to benefit the people.

Over the century, its members have grown from 18 to 134 groups, covering a vast area of businesses.

Its roles have also expanded to include promoting goodwill and unity among all ethnic groups.

Also present was the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.
