Five nabbed, ship and 50,000 litres of smuggled diesel seized in raid on Klang jetty

KLANG: An early morning raid by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry saw the seizure of a ship and 50,000 litres of diesel.

When met at the scene at the Bagan Hailam jetty here on Friday (Dec 13), its enforcement director Datuk Azman Adam said the raid was conducted at 3am the day before.

The raid followed two months of surveillance in a probe of suspected diesel smuggling, he said.

“The raiding team arrested five men, four of whom are foreigners. They have been detained to assist in the investigation.

“During the inspection of the ship, a local man came forward and claimed to be the vessel's owner.

"However, he failed to present any documentation or licenses related to the trade of diesel,” he said.

Azman said the diesel was found on board and in supply tanks around the jetty.

The value of the seizures was estimated at RM900,00, he added.

“It is believed that the suspects would conduct their operations at night.

"We are still looking into the source and intended destination of the fuel,” he said.
