BUTTERWORTH: Two men pleaded not guilty to a charge of gang robbery involving more than RM50,000.

K. Sreedharan Naidu and J. Moohilan Naidu, both 33, claimed trial before Sessions judge Nor Azah Kasran here on Thursday (Dec 12).

According to the charge sheet, they are accused of robbing one Syed Jamalludin Syed Hamid, 57, of his car and money amounting to RM54,000 with the use of a parang (machete) at the Taman Bukit Kecil intersection in Central Seberang Perai at 12.30pm on Friday (Dec 6).

They are charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code for committing gang robbery, which carries imprisonment of up to 20 years and caning if convicted.

DPP Nurul Nadia Jamal said the offence is non-bailable.

Lawyer S. Morgan, who represented both accused, appealed and said his clients have families to support.

"While it is a non-bailable offence, it is up to the discretion of the court," he said.

Judge Nor Azah then set bail at RM10,000 with one surety for each accused.

She also ordered them to report to the nearest police station every month pending disposal of the case and set Jan 15 for case mention.
