Royal rebuke sparks Klang clean-up

KLANG: The Council of Justices of The Peace of Selangor hopes the Selangor state government and Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) will seriously heed the call to clean and spruce up Klang.

The call was made by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who was furious over poor hygiene standards and frequent flooding in the royal town.

The Ruler had recently issued a stern rebuke to both the state government and MBDK during the inauguration of the Klang Chinese Muslim Jamek Mosque (Masjid Jamek Cina Muslim Klang) here, emphasising the urgency of addressing these issues.

In a statement signed by its president Datuk Ng Seing Liong, the council said it fully supported Sultan Sharafuddin’s call for a cleaner Klang and effective flood mitigation measures.

“Just as his Royal Highness hoped, the Council of Justices of The Peace of Selangor and the state’s people also share the hope that the city’s historical value will be retained despite the rapid development in Klang,’’ said Ng.

Ng also suggested that several other city councils take responsibility for the upkeep of Sungai Klang.

“Since Sungai Klang flows from Klang through several cities right up to Kuala Lumpur; the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Petaling Jaya City Council, Subang Jaya City Council and Shah Alam City Council must also take the responsibility of cleaning up the river together with MBDK,’’ Ng added.

Both the Selangor state government and MBDK have embarked on the mammoth task immediately following Sultan Sharafuddin’s rebuke.
