Dr Wee pays last respects to student who passed away a day before SPM

BATU PAHAT: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong paid his last respects to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate Sim Hui Yi, who passed away after falling into a coma one day before the national exam.

The MCA president said he was saddened by the news and hoped that Sim's family would remain strong.

"It was very sudden, just a day before SPM.

"This is a great loss to the family, especially her parents.

"I hope that her parents remain strong in facing such a difficult time," he said after paying his last respects to the 17-year-old.

Dr Wee was also seen spending some time talking to Sim's parents and offering them words of encouragement.

"Ling Tian Soon (Yong Peng assemblyman) and I will continue to assist her family in whatever way we can," he said.

The SMK Yong Peng student passed away on Thursday (Dec 5) after falling into a coma one day before SPM.

Earlier, Ling, who is also MCA Youth chief and state health and environment committee chairman, said the student had complained of a severe headache one day before sitting for her SPM.

"Her family rushed her to the Yong Peng health clinic after she collapsed, and she was later transferred to the Batu Pahat Hospital.

"She then fell into a coma and unfortunately passed away at around on Thursday (Dec 5) morning," he said.
