BATU PAHAT: A Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) student has passed away after falling into a coma a day before sitting for the examination.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the student, Sim Hui Yi, from SMK Yong Peng was complaining about a bad headache one day before sitting for her SPM.

"Her family rushed her to the Yong Peng health clinic after she collapsed and was later transferred to the Batu Pahat hospital.

"She then fell into a coma and unfortunately passed away at around 10am on Thursday (Dec 5)," he said when contacted.

Ling, who is also Yong Peng assemblyman had visited the 17-year-old's family after her passing on Thursday (Dec 5) and when she was in a coma the day before.

"According to her parents, Sim has always been a healthy and active child and has no known medical issues," he said, adding that the girl was known to be a hardworking and smart student.
