Pitas assemblyman says taking action against social media defamation

KOTA KINABALU: Pitas assemblyman Datuk Rudy Awah says legal action is going to be taken against the owners of the Facebook and TikTok accounts who accused him of land grabs and corruption.

"I was slandered by these people through TikTok, which was uploaded a few days ago. In the video, which involves me and two other friends, they have linked me to corruption and land grab issues," he said at a press conference on Thursday (Dec 5).

The Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah leader said he had never met or been in contact with a state minister named in the video nor with another person mentioned to discuss land-related matters.

Rudy said a police report was lodged immediately after the edited videos appeared on social media.

"If police are able to identify them, I will bring them to court. I will sue them," he said, dismissing land grab claims against him as baseless.

He added that he had also explained the matter to both the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Rudy, who won the Pitas seat as an independent before joining Gagasan Rakyat, said he is prepared to defend the seat in the next state election if selected as a candidate.
