Man disappears while cleaning boat in Kinabatangan, croc attack suspected

KOTA KINABALU: A routine evening of washing a boat at the riverbank in Kampung Sri Ganda, Kinabatangan turned tragic when a father vanished, leaving his son in shock.

Fearing his father had fallen victim to a crocodile attack, the son quickly raised the alarm and notified the authorities.

Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief assistant fire superintendent Nurul Azlan Shah Jamalludin said they received a distress call at 10.35pm on Sunday (Dec 1) regarding the incident involving the man, identified as Jiman, in his 30s.

Due to the remote location, rescue teams arrived at the scene early on Monday (Dec 2) morning to begin their search.

"The operation is being conducted with assistance from the Wildlife Department and the police," Nurul Azlan said.

"So far, the victim has not been found, but updates will be provided as the operation progresses," he added, noting that efforts are ongoing.

The tragic incident highlights the inherent risks for those living near crocodile habitats in Kinabatangan, a region known for its close coexistence with wildlife.
