JOHOR BARU: A tragic accident in Adda Heights claimed the life of a 16-year-old Rohingya male passenger, while another individual sustained minor injuries.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 10.35am on Saturday (Nov 30) at a traffic junction on Jalan Adda 4.

"The collision involved two vehicles; an SUV driven by a 62-year-old woman and an MPV.

"Initial investigations suggest that the SUV was exiting the junction when it collided with the rear side of the moving MPV.

"The impact caused the MPV to spin, ejecting one of the passengers, a 16-year-old male, from the vehicle," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 1).

ACP Raub added that the young passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the MPV suffered only minor injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by negligent driving.

ACP Raub noted that the police are continuing their efforts to gather evidence, including seeking independent witnesses and CCTV footage to assist with the investigation.

"The driver of the SUV has been detained for further questioning, and both urine and alcohol tests returned negative results.

"The body of the deceased passenger has been sent to the Sultan Ismail Hospital's forensic department for a post-mortem," he added.
