Couple nabbed on NSE after two-hour, 130km high-speed chase from JB

JOHOR BARU: Two people have been arrested after a two-hour high-speed pursuit that stretched 130km, from Adda Heights here to the North-South Expressway.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the chase began at 11.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 17) when a police patrol spotted the 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman, in a car parked at the Adda Heights recreation area, behaving suspiciously.

“When approached, the driver reversed his car and rammed into the police MPV before driving off.

“Six more vehicles from Johor Baru South district police headquarters and four from Johor Baru North were then deployed.

“The duo was arrested at KM76.6 on the Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam highway at 1.37am on Wednesday (Jan 18),” he said in a statement.

According to ACP Raub, the couple claimed to have been on a date and were surprised when the police vehicle approached.

A background check found they had no prior offences.

Police confiscated their car along with RM168 in cash and the duo has been remanded for four days until Saturday (Jan 21), ACP Raub added.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in discharging his duties, as well as Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
