Ideas moulded by moral values key to Malaysia's future, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Ideas that include principles and moral values will bring Malaysia closer to realising its potential as a thriving, just and innovative nation, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Ideas must stem from a good heart, grounded in moral and ethical values,” said the Prime Minister at the Festival of Ideas (FOI).

He said that it is important to balance tradition and progress. Malaysia must remain rooted in its identity, culture, language and religious beliefs while embracing advancements

“But, ideas alone are not enough. Without action, they are like a tree without fruit,” he said at the event on Thursday (Nov 28) during the “FOI Talk with the Prime Minister” titled “Ideas on Malaysia’s Future”.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh attended the event.

During his talk, Anwar criticised those who exploit divisive issues rooted in racial sentiment and called on youth to move beyond such divisive rhetoric.

He also called on all Malaysians, particularly the youth, to hold leaders accountable.

“It is not enough to produce intelligent individuals; we need individuals with ethics and wisdom.

“The way forward for Malaysia lies in enlightenment - ideas paired with knowledge, ethical grounding and the pursuit of truth,” he said.
