Tussle for GE16 seats within unity govt will erode public's confidence, says PKR youth leader

PETALING JAYA: Any internal tussles for seats will only impact the people’s confidence negatively, says PKR youth exco Arshad Hassni.

Arshad Hassni was responding to Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement that the coalition could contest five parliamentary seats in the Federal Territories in the next general election.

Ahmad Zahid said on Sunday (Nov 24), that Barisan would discuss this with its partners in the unity government, adding that the goal was to make the a stronghold of the unity pact.

Arshad, who is also the Segambut PKR youth chief said when it came to dividing seats, priority must be on ensuring that the people continue to benefit from a stable and efficient administration.

"It is important that every party in this coalition prioritises the people’s welfare, by paying attention to main issues such as cost of living, job opportunities and economic stability," he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 25).

"This coalition must continue to strengthen grassroots support, especially among young voters who are an important element in deciding the results of GE16.

"Pakatan Harapan and Barisan have to show the people that the unity government can bring positive changes and mend the country’s situation," he added.

He said strategic cooperation and agreement were key for the unity alliance’s success not only in elections but in ensuring that Malaysia continued to move forward.

Arshad said seat division had to be done wisely and by taking into account each partner’s strengths and influence.

He said Umno and Barisan have an important role to play in strengthening support in Malay majority areas which has been proven in the Nenggiri and Mahkota by-elections.

Pakatan, on the other hand, would ensure victory in the federal territories and other areas where the coalition has strong support.
