Body-in-freezer case: Post-mortem delayed, body still thawing, say police

KUALA LUMPUR: Forensic pathologists will need more time for the post-mortem of a woman’s still-thawing body found last week in a freezer, say police.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said this was because the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre team needs to thaw the internal organs before proceeding with the post-mortem investigation.

"The internal organs need time to be defrosted as the body has been in the freezer for quite some time," he told a press conference at Brickfields police headquarters on Monday (Nov 18).

The remand for the 53-year-old suspect detained in the case will most likely be extended after the initial remand expires on Tuesday (Nov 19), he added.

"Doctors still need time to evaluate the suspect, including mentally. Furthermore, he has not fully recovered from an illness," he said, without specifying.

So far, the police have recorded the statements of five individuals to assist with the investigation, ACP Ku Mashariman said.

"We will investigate the matter thoroughly," he said.

On Tuesday (Nov 12), the action of the 53-year-old suspect was uncovered after police inspected his double-storey house in Taman OUG.

The suspect contacted the police and told them he was not well and he had stuffed his mother's body in a freezer.

It is learnt that the suspect had financial problems as well as a chronic health problem.

The case was classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and the body was sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem.

Police identified a personal disagreement as the motive behind the murder.
