Mt Lewotobi Laki-Laki eruption: 83 Malaysians to be evacuated

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia is evacuating 83 Malaysians following the eruption of the Mt Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano.

According to Bernama, the eruption of the volcano, located in East Nusa Tenggara province about 500km east of Bali, created a 9km ash cloud.

Mt Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted at least three times on Nov 9 as authorities widened the restricted area.

An earlier eruption by the volcano on Nov 3 killed nine people and forced the evacuation of more than 15,000 villagers as more eruptions ensued.

Airlines in Singapore and Australia have cancelled flights to and from Bali due to the eruption.
