Condolences pour in for Daim


PETALING JAYA: Condolences are pouring in for the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin who passed away on Wednesday (Nov 13).

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin described Daim as a “great Malaysian economy architect”.

"We have lost not only a great leader, but also one of the main architects of the Malaysian economy when it was an East Asian tiger.

"He was a man who had a vision for Malaysian politics and economy. We will definitely miss his words of wisdom," he added.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, before speaking in Parliament during Question Time, expressed condolences to Daim.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express condolences to the family members of Daim, who has left us this morning (Nov 13),” said Teo in Parliament on Wednesday.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Ramli Mohd Nor also expressed condolences to Daim’s family.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail took to social media to convey his condolences to Daim’s family.

“May Allah forgive his sins, place his soul among the righteous, and reward him for all his contributions to the country,” he said in a Facebook post.

Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Daim left a profound impact on developing the country's economy and strengthening Malaysia's financial stability.

“May his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous,” he said in a Facebook post.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also expressed his condolences to Daim’s family.

Daim passed away this morning after having been admitted to hospital for a stroke last month.
