Traffic jam on North-South Expressway near Gopeng following tanker accident

IPOH: A 6km traffic snarl has built up on the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway between Gopeng and Tapah following an accident involving a tanker and a jeep

PLUS Malaysia Bhd's @plustrafik X (formerly known as Twitter) account reported that all southbound lanes have been closed following the accident at KM313 on Tuesday (Nov 12) at about 9.10am.

It is understood that a tanker has overturned in the incident, blocking the dual-carriageway road.

"All lanes are still closed. Work to remove and tow away the vehicle is currently ongoing," the account said, adding that a contra-lane has been activated.

"A 5km traffic congestion has also built up on the northbound lane," it added.

PLUS Malaysia also advised that motorists heading south should exit via the Gopeng toll interchange.

"Please adhere to traffic signs or use another alternative route," it added.

When contacted, Tapah OCPD Supt Mohd Naim Asnawi said the driver of the tanker is believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve to the side of the road before falling and blocking all lanes.

He added that no lives were lost during the incident.
