KULIM: A lorry attendant was sentenced to 38 months' imprisonment by a Magistrate's Court here Wednesday (July 29) after pleading guilty to charges of kidnapping a Form Two student and causing hurt to the teenager last week.
Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah sentenced M. Shyrichs, 39, to 38 months' jail for the kidnapping offence and five months' imprisonment for causing hurt.
However, the court ordered both prison terms to run concurrently, effective from the date of the accused's arrest on July 24.
According to the charge sheet, Shyrichs was accused of kidnapping the 14-year-old girl in front of SMK Dato Lela Pahlawan in Padang Serai at 6.30pm on July 23.
He was charged under Section 361 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 363 of the same Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.
The man was also charged with intentionally causing hurt to the girl at the same place, time and date under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. - Bernama
