PUTRAJAYA: More than 20,000 visitors are expected at National Landscape Day (HLN) 2026, which aims to strengthen sustainable landscape development as a driver of public well-being and the green economy, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Housing and Local Government Minister said the four-day event, jointly organised by the National Landscape Department, the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) and the Melaka government, will be held at Stadium Hang Jebat in Melaka from Aug 6 to 9.
“A total of RM2.5mil has been allocated for the event, which is lower than previous years. We believe this is a modest investment that will generate high returns and meaningful impact.
“It is also part of our effort to cultivate a culture of loving the environment among Malaysians and to help them appreciate the important role landscapes play in our daily lives,” he said during the pre-launch of HLN 2026 on Wednesday (July 29).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch HLN 2026 on Aug 7.
Nga said this year's theme, "Sustainable Landscape, Malaysia Madani," reflects the country's commitment to strengthening nature-based tourism while ensuring environmental sustainability for future generations.
He added that the landscape industry had emerged as an important economic contributor, with Malaysia recording RM534.3mil in landscape-related exports last year to markets including Singapore, Japan, Australia and the United States.
Nga also said the 27th edition of the event will, for the first time, feature a night-time opening ceremony, with special lighting, multimedia presentations and entertainment to create a more vibrant atmosphere.
"Holding (the event) at night is expected to attract more visitors, as most people are free after work and school,” he said.
Throughout the four-day event, visitors can take part in activities including fun runs, creative workshops, youth competitions, family-friendly contests and industry showcases.
