TASEK GELUGOR: A woman was killed while two others sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision near Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Menora here on Wednesday (July 29) morning.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said the deceased was identified as Zuraini Jaafar, 60.
He said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.26am, following which nine personnel from the Tasek Gelugor Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.
“The accident involved a Perodua Kancil (driven by the deceased), a Perodua Axia and a Proton Saga, involving three individuals.
“Two victims were trapped in their vehicles, but one was rescued by members of the public before fire and rescue personnel reached the scene,” he said in a statement.
John said the team used special equipment to extricate Zuraini, who was trapped in the driver’s seat.
"The victim was extricated at 9.13am and pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel before the body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
He added that the driver of the Perodua Axia, a 69-year-old man, sustained minor injuries, while the 51-year-old female driver of the Proton Saga escaped unhurt.
