Three nabbed in high-speed chase on NSE


MELAKA: Three suspected cable thieves were nabbed after a 65km high-speed chase while a manhunt has been launched for another suspect who managed to escape, said Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

The Melaka Tengah OCPD said the drama unfolded when the suspects behaved suspiciously in a car near Jalan Parameswara here at 5.30am on Nov 5 and a patrol car instructed them to pull over.

"However, the driver accelerated and sped before my men pursued them until KM239.1 of the North-South Expressway near Pedas-Linggi Toll in Negri Sembilan," he said on Monday (Nov 11).

ACP Christopher Patit said the car with the suspects drove dangerously, colliding with eight vehicles along Jalan Bukit Palah here and along the expressway until the car skidded near Pedas-Linggi Toll before police officers managed to intercept and detain three of them.

He said a scuffle ensued between the cops and suspects in the middle of the expressway when one managed to flee into a secondary jungle at the site.

ACP Christopher Patit said the police also recovered 148 telecommunication copper cables worth about RM27,000 and various equipment to stage the thefts including machetes.

He said the three suspects, aged 26 to 38 years had 20 previous relating to house break-ins and drug abuses,

ACP Christopher Patit said all three from Selangor are under remand to assist investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
