Papar Hospital fire: Patients and staff safely evacuated, says Health Minister


PETALING JAYA: All patients and staff have been safely evacuated from Papar Hospital after it was struck by a fire, with no fatalities reported, according to Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

The Health Minister confirmed the fire incident at Papar Hospital.

"It is with great sadness that I inform you Papar Hospital in Sabah has been hit by a fire."

"All resources are focused on ensuring the safety of patients and hospital staff."

"I have been informed no fatalities have been reported."

"Necessary evacuations, including transfers to nearby hospitals, have been successfully carried out," he said in a posting on X late on Monday night (Nov 11).

Earlier reports indicated that firefighters were trying to extinguish the fire, which was believed to have started around 7pm on Monday.

Social media users reported the fire has now engulfed the hospital’s pharmacy store.

Medical officials are working diligently to move patients and equipment away.

Dr Dzulkefly also urged the public to remain calm and give the Fire and Rescue Department sufficient space to perform their duties.

"Further updates will be provided once an investigation is completed and confirmation is received from the relevant authorities."

"I kindly ask for everyone's patience during this time. Let us all pray for the safety and well-being of everyone there," he said.
