Students, parents throng myStarJob career fair in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: The myStarJob career fair here has been a hit, with many locals visiting the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre to explore new job opportunities.

The two-day fair organised by Star Media Group, features companies from various industries and sectors, including firms from Singapore.

Among those attending was fresh graduate L. Thivaa, 23, who travelled all the way from Penang to explore potential opportunities.

"My brother has been working in Singapore and living in Johor Baru for the past few years. I hope to do the same so we can live together here. That is one of the main reasons I made the trip from Penang, as I know some Singapore companies are here," he said.

Thivaa, who graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia a few months ago, added that he hopes to learn about the job market beyond just searching for jobs.

"The fair is also a good chance for me to understand what companies from different sectors and industries want from job seekers," he said.

Another fresh graduate, Selina Chai, 22, said she hopes to secure a job interview at the fair.

"I decided to come after my mother told me about it, as I believe it may help with my job search. I hope to gain insights from the companies here and ideally secure an interview," she said.

Apart from fresh graduates, the myStarjob Fair has also attracted employed individuals eager to explore new opportunities.

"I have been working in Singapore as a technician in the oil and gas industry for over four years, and I feel it is time to advance my career. I hope to find something interesting here that will allow me to grow," said 27-year-old technician Abdul Afiq Mohd Samiin.

One of the highlights of the event is the job-matching initiative, where recruiters and potential employees can have sit-down interviews.

The fair, held on Saturday (Nov 9) and Sunday (Nov 10) is sponsored by the Securities Industry Development Corporation, CCIE Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, and Super Micro Computer Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
