Speaker tells Pendang MP to show proof of 'RM94mil found' claims or apologise

KUALA LUMPUR: Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim has been told to show proof of his claim that RM94mil was found in a former minister’s home or make an apology.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, reading out the Hansard, said Awang (PN-Pendang) had made such statements thrice.

“He has two options. If he has proof, he can come forward and explain that it shows that MACC was wrong and investigations have been done. If not, he should just apologise.

“This is the best resolution. It is up to him,” he said.

Johari told Opposition chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan to convey the message to Awang, who was absent.

Takiyuddin then proposed that a date be fixed for the matter to be resolved.

Batu Gajah MP and former human resources minister V. Sivakumar and RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) said on Tuesday that they would file a motion to refer Awang to the rights and privileges committee for claiming that RM94mil was found at a former minister’s residence.

At a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, Sivakumar said while Awang did not take names, it was obvious that he was referring to him as the former minister in question.

During Monday's debate on Budget 2025, Awang asked about the status of the MACC probe into the former human resources minister.

The MACC has denied the claims as well.
