Johor police seize 11 cars, issued 92 summonses for illegal racing

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have seized 11 vehicles used in illegal street racing during a raid in Eco Botanic here.

Iskandar Puteri deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Azlan Abdul Kadir said that the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department conducted the raid codenamed “Ops Samseng Jalanan” from 10pm on Saturday (Nov 2) to 5am, Sunday.

“During the operation, 68 vehicles and 74 individuals were inspected, resulting in 11 vehicles seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1967.

“Additionally, 92 summonses were issued for various offences, including modified exhaust systems, lack of insurance coverage, driving without a valid licence, and other traffic violations,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Sput Mohd Azlan also urged members of the public to always comply with road safety regulations.

“We will take stern action against street racers who persist in violating traffic laws,” he said, adding that such operations will be carried out weekly to curb street racing activities that disturb public peace and endanger other road users.

“Do not risk your life with these dangerous activities,” he warned, reminding the community that the authorities are committed to maintaining public safety on the roads.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that police have received a report regarding a fatal accident involving a lorry, driven by a 61-year-old local man, and a motorcycle, ridden by a 57-year-old local man.

“The incident occurred along Jalan Persiaran Seri Alam and Jalan Lembah 3 in Bandar Seri Alam.

“The accident is believed to have happened around 6.45pm on Nov 2 as the motorcyclist was travelling solo towards Jalan Tasek.

“While on a straight stretch of road, the motorcyclist reportedly collided with the lorry, which had suddenly turned right, leading to a severe impact between the two vehicles,” he said.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi added that due to the collision, the motorcyclist sustained critical injuries to multiple parts of his body and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sultan Ismail Hospital.

His body was transported to the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
