Anwar marks Deepavali with hope of bright future for M’sia

KUALA LUMPUR: Let us all embrace the spirit of Deepavali as a beacon towards a brighter future for the nation, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In his Deepavali speech celebrating the Festival of Lights, the Prime Minister urged the people to move on from darkness to light, symbolising hope, progress and solidarity.

Anwar said Deepavali is more than just a festive occasion.

“Today, we celebrate together with Malaysians from all walks of life and backgrounds, standing united in the spirit of Deepavali,” he said during the Madani Deepavali Open House celebration here yesterday.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Anwar described Deepavali as a time to rekindle the light of togetherness and shared aspirations, adding that the significance of Deepavali should extend beyond a mere celebration.

“The spirit of Deepavali is to illuminate and to replace darkness.

“This journey from darkness into light is one that speaks to all of us,” he said, adding that the festival is also about self-reflection and renewal.

“All Malaysians should be reminded that life is not merely about survival or daily sustenance, but it is enriched by the pursuit of collective wellbeing, justice and a better future,” he added.

During this day of festivity, Anwar encouraged all Malaysians to help reinforce the ideals of mutual respect and compassion.

He hoped that as the nation celebrates, this festival would allow Malaysians to envision a more brilliant and unified future for all.
