Abuya’s daughter likely to open more leads in GISB probe

KUALA LUMPUR: More leads could have been uncovered as Ummu Atiyah Ashaari (pic), the daughter of “Abuya”, led investigators to the location where she claimed she had been confined by members of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).

The 41-year-old eldest daughter of former Al-Arqam leader Ashaari Muhammad arrived at Kampung Batu Hampar Dalam in Beruas, Perak around 2.40pm.

Clad in a grey kebarung, she was accompanied by three friends.

Ummu Atiyah recounted her alleged experience of being confined by GISB members to 10 officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Taiping district police headquarters before leaving some 30 minutes later. Earlier, she had her statement recorded.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said Ummu Atiyah went to the Padang Gajah police station in Trong, Perak at about 11am yesterday.

He said police had recorded her statement in connection with her claims of being a victim of mistreatment by GISB members.

“She revealed that she was wrongfully detained in a two-room house for about a month,” he said when contacted.

Razarudin said Ummu Atiyah also claimed that she tried to escape but was caught and confined again.

He said she visited the house with the investigating officer and other police personnel.

“She showed the house used by GISB followers to confine her before she was sent to her grandmother’s home in Kedah,” he added.

Last Saturday, the IGP said police had started investigation into Ummu Atiyah’s case after she revealed that she was wrongfully confined and mistreated after refusing to marry a GISB leader.Razarudin said the victim, who had previously received psychiatric treatment at Taiping Hos-pital, is still on medication.
