86-year-old woman rescued from house full of junk by Civil Defence personnel

GEORGE TOWN: An 86-year-old woman had to be rescued from a house full of garbage and junk by the Civil Defence here.

Members of her family had to resort to calling for help from Civil Defence at around 4.40pm on Sunday (Oct 13) as the house in Jalan Mano here was strewn with piles of garbage and junk, and the woman faced difficulties walking.

The four-man team were deployed to the scene where the personnel were greeted with bundles upon bundles of garbage piled around the house compound and even inside the double-storey house.

There were also bundles of garbage on the stairs.

Photos showed the personnel wearing face masks as they worked to remove the woman, who is believed to be suffering from various ailments including hypertension, diabetes, physical frailty and hearing impairment.

Civil Defence Force northeast district officer, Muhammad Aizat Abdul Ghani, was reported as saying that the woman was unable to walk and had difficulty leaving the double-storey house due to the large amount of rubbish and recyclable materials that she had amassed over the years.

The woman was later carried out of the house on a stretcher.

It is believed that the woman needed help to move to an old folks' home nearby.
