Thunderstorms forecast over multiple states Friday evening


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over several states across the country until 5pm on Friday (Oct 11), according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

"The affected areas include parts of Kelantan (Jeli, Kuala Krai, and Gua Musang); Terengganu; Pahang (Raub, Jerantut, Bentong and Temerloh); Selangor (Hulu Langat and Sepang); Putrajaya; Negri Sembilan (Seremban and Port Dickson); and Johor (Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru)," said MetMalaysia.

Sarawak is also expected to experience adverse weather conditions.

"Thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of Sarawak, including Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Sarikei), Mukah (Tanjung Manis) and Miri (Subis and Miri)," it added.

MetMalaysia urged residents in these areas to remain cautious and stay indoors.

Malaysia is currently in the trans-monsoon phase, which is expected to last until early November.

During this period, the country will experience winds blowing from different directions, which may lead to thunderstorms, often accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds.
