MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for seven states


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain in seven states until 6pm on Monday (Oct 7).

In a statement released, MetMalaysia forecast that adverse weather conditions would affect a large part of Sabah, including areas such as Tambunan, Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau, Tawau, Sandakan, Telupid and Beluran.

Similar conditions are also expected in Sarawak, particularly in Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Bintulu.

In Peninsular Malaysia, the states expected to experience thunderstorms or heavy rain this afternoon are Kedah (Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar) and Kelantan (Jeli).

Johor is also forecast to be affected, with thunderstorms expected in Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru, while Terengganu is likely to experience similar conditions in Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Marang and Dungun.

MetMalaysia said the warning was issued due to signs of thunderstorms, with rain intensity expected to exceed 20mm per hour and lasting for over an hour. – Bernama
