PUTRAJAYA: The number of calls to mental health helpline Talian Heal indicating suicidal tendencies shows a need for intervention measures to be improved, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said 336 such calls were received by the helpline from its inception in 2022 up to Wednesday (Oct 9).

Of the number, he said 198 callers had the idea of taking their own lives, with 138 already making attempts.
“This may not be the entire scenario due to underreporting.
"That is the situation we have today and is a reminder for us to improve intervention measures.

“It must begin with early intervention,” he told a press conference after Global Mental Health Day national-level celebrations here on Thursday (Oct 10).
Dzulkefly added that close to 59,680 calls were received by the hotline as of Wednesday.
Of the number, 59% of callers expressed a need for emotional support.

The Talian Heal 15555 helpline is operated by Health Ministry counselling officers daily from 8am until midnight, including public holidays.
