IPOH: Three people have been arrested for stealing from cars in residential areas of Manjung.
Perak police chief Datuk Comm Azizi Mat Aris said two men and a woman were detained on September 27 at about 5.30pm, found with several stolen items.
Known as "Gang Dinesh" from Johor, the trio arrived in Manjung about a month ago and have histories of criminal and drug-related offences.
"A victim filed a police report at 11.04am on the day of their arrest, stating that valuables were taken from his car parked in front of his house at Taman Raja Muda Musa," he said.
The victim discovered the theft when heading to work at 8.30am, and lost a gold chain, gold bracelet, an iPad, and RM500 in cash.
"Surveillance footage showed a man opening the car door at approximately 1.45am and leaving three minutes later," Azizi said at a press conference at the state police headquarters on Thursday (Oct 10).
Azizi added that the suspects are linked to at least 15 similar incidents, with victims called to identify their belongings.
"In some instances, the thefts occurred because gates or car doors were left unlocked," he said.
Fifteen investigation papers have been opened against the suspects, who will face charges under Sections 379, 411, 414, 427, and 447 of the Penal Code.
In a separate incident, Azizi reported the arrest of two men for stealing oil palm fruits from a plantation in Kampung Sungai Tuntung, Pantai Remis, Manjung.
A report lodged at 12.05pm on October 4 led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man and a 41-year-old palm fruit collection centre agent.
"One tonne of oil palm fruits worth RM750 was reported stolen. The suspects were caught on October 7 and 8, with a sack containing three bunches of fruits and a collection centre permit," he said.
This year alone, Manjung police have opened 16 case files relating to oil palm fruit theft.
