31 housed at relief centre following floods, landslides in Cameron Highlands

KUANTAN: Thirty-one people from five families have to be moved to a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at the Sungai Ruil community centre following flash floods and landslides in Kampung Sungai Ruil, Cameron Highlands.

The Cameron Highlands District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat announced in a statement that the group comprised 11 men, 10 women and 10 children, reported Sinar Harian.

According to the statement, the incident at 6pm on Monday (Oct 7) was said to be caused by heavy rain that hit the area, leading to a rapid rise in river levels and causing the soil in several areas to become unstable.

"Efforts to clean the roads and affected areas are actively underway to ensure the situation is safe again for local residents," said the department on Tuesday (Oct 8).
