Remand extended on Al-Arqam founder’s grandson


SHAH ALAM: A grandson of Al-Arqam founder Ashaari Muhammad was among nine people linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB), whose remands were extended by the Magistrate’s Court here.

Others in the group included another man and seven women, out of which four were wives of members of GISB board of directors.

One of the wives was an Australian citizen.

Both the men were remanded for an additional two days whilst the women will be remanded for one more day.

Magistrate M. Mageshwary issued the remand order which was requested by the police upon the previous seven-day remand order’s expiration yesterday.

According to the group’s legal counsel Boestamam Ahmad, the seven women were expected to be released on police bail yesterday whilst both the men were scheduled to be released today.

The nine, who were arrested in Rawang on Sept 27, were being investigated under Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, said Boestamam.

Besides Boestamam, other counsels representing the nine were Najib Zakaria and Dorina Abdullah.
