THREE workers from an electricity supply company in India cut off the power to an entire town after being asked to pay for their drinks at a bar, Makkal Osai reported.

Abilash, Saleem Kumar and Suresh Kumar, who work for the Kerala State Electricity Board, were apparently drinking at a bar in Kottayam when they argued with the establishment over the bill. The trio then decided to cut off a high-voltage feeder, causing a blackout in the Thalayazham area. The utility company investigated the matter, including questioning the bar staff, after the incident was shared online.

It found that the three men had indeed been drunk and misused their access to the power distribution system to take revenge against the bar, disrupting the lives of thousands of people.

The workers have been suspended pending further action.
