A man in Melaka smashed a room door to rescue two of his children during a house fire, Makkal Osai reported.
S. Balamurugan lives with his wife A. Nithiya and five children in a rented house in Bukit Beruang.
He woke up during the night last Thursday to go to the bathroom and noticed flames in the room where his children, aged 10 and 16, were sleeping.
He tried to open the door, but it was jammed, so he kicked it open.
Balamurugan then gathered everyone and got them out of the house. The 10-year-old suffered burns on his foot and is receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka.
Balamurugan said he was shocked at how quickly the fire spread. Having lost their rented house of two years and all their belongings, they are forced to stay in their car near the hospital.
Balamurugan works as a technician while his wife works as a security guard. They face difficulties paying the security deposit to rent another house.
Hang Tuah Jaya MP Adam Adli Abd Halim has promised to arrange temporary housing and help with the security deposit for a house to rent.
