Son of GISB leader allegedly among five remanded for a week after border nab

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the five alleged Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) members arrested near the Bukit Kayu Hitam border checkpoint, is believed to be the son of a GISB leader.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that all five have been remanded for a week after they were detained around 6pm on Wednesday (Sept 18).

"The suspects aged between 30 and 41, have been remanded until Wednesday (Sept 25).

"They were brought to the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court for the remand application today.

"They have been remanded for seven days to assist with the investigation under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act," he said when contacted on Thursday (Sept 19).

The five were travelling in two motorhomes bearing the GISB logo.

"They were heading to the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS complex, towards Thailand," the IGP had said.

The suspects were initially brought to the Kubang Pasu police headquarters.

"The suspects' last known addresses were in Selangor, Johor, Perak and Kelantan," he said.

Police also seized the two motorhomes along with another vehicle.

On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children, comprising 201 boys and 201 girls, aged between one and 17, from the 20 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan linked to GISB in a rescue operation codenamed Ops Global.

There were allegations that the children were abused, exploited and sexually assaulted.

A total of 171 suspects, aged between 17 and 64, were arrested, including a teacher and dorm caretakers.
