Mais: Alleged deviant practices will be presented to Fatwa panel

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has directed that all findings and discussions related to Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) be presented to the Selangor Fatwa Committee.

Mais chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof (pic) said this was to determine whether GISB and its network’s activities deviate from the true teachings of Islam.

He said studies and discussions on the GISB’s alleged involvement in spreading and practising of activities that deviate from the true teachings of Islam had been carried out since 2020.

“The issue had been discussed at length in a series of meetings before recent news on the arrest and investigation of residents in several welfare homes linked to the company,” he said, Bernama reported.

“To determine GISB’s involvement in alleged practices that are deviant to Islam’s true teachings, Mais has directed for findings that have been made to be presented to the state fatwa committee.

“This is so that any issues related to Islamic laws can be decided expeditiously,” he added.

Abdul Aziz said outcome of the studies also touched on GISB’s involvement in the Al-Arqam Group’s teachings and its network, which were banned by fatwa gazetted in Selangor on Feb 4, 1993, Aug 11, 1994 and Dec 21, 2006.

Abdul Aziz emphasised that Mais and all Islamic religious affairs agencies in Selangor remain steadfast against GISB and any entity deviating from Islamic teachings.

“We will intensify efforts and work with relevant agencies to ensure enforcement actions are taken against those committing criminal offences, in accordance with the law,” he added.
