Cops catch cable crooks in Selangor

AMPANG: Two men and two women were detained for suspected cable theft in Taman Bukit Teratai here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said the police stumbled upon the suspects as they were in the midst of stealing the cables at about 2.30am on Sept 3.

"The suspects fled in a four-wheel drive and the police gave chase.

"After about 200m, the suspects crashed their vehicle into a road divider along the MRR2 before fleeing on foot," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 9).

However, the police managed to track down and detain the suspects aged between 21 and 32 in Kajang on Sept 4, he said.

"We seized the four-wheel drive used by the suspects and tools to cut cables.

"The two men had prior criminal records," he said.

ACP Mohd Azam said the suspects have been remanded.

"Both men are still in police custody but the two women have been released on police bail," he said.
