Sabah tourism industry bracing for impact amidst geopolitical tensions

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah tourism industry is bracing for changes and impacts in view of rising global fuel prices.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the pinch can already be felt in the tourism industry, particularly in the transportation and connectivity sectors.

“As a destination that relies heavily on air, land and sea access, the pressure on our industry players is real and immediate,” he said when met by reporters at the state-level Hari Raya Open House here on Saturday (March 28).

He said the state government will continue working closely with the federal government to identify the best solutions and ensure its tourism sector remains resilient and competitive.

“So far, we are still waiting for the Prime Minister to call us up to discuss the next step of action… we have anticipated that we will feel a significant impact from what is happening right now,” said Jafry.

“To all industry players, remain calm, spend prudently, and stay united as we navigate this challenge together,” he said.
